About Scottish Dancing and the Club
The Crawley Scottish Country Dancing Club has been in existence for many years and members enjoy an informal evening of social dancing. We meet every Thursday from September to May at the Milton Mount Community Centre, Milton Mount Avenue, Pound Hill, Crawley, West Sussex, RH10 3DP from 8.00 - 10.00pm. A charge of £3 an evening or £30 for 3 months is made.
Scottish country dancing should not be confused with Scottish highland dancing − swords, highland fling etc. Scottish country dancing is popular in Sussex, Britain and indeed the whole world. It is a form of social dancing usually consisting of four couples, positioned adjacent to each other in two parallel lines, the gentleman facing the ladies. An important feature of the long-wise country dance is that it is progressive. The couple starting at the top finish at the bottom and then each couple takes a turn in order to progress to the bottom.
Everyone is welcome from absolute beginners to people who have danced before. Our age range is wide and we welcome people who have just left school to people who went to school a long time ago! There is no need to bring a partner as beginners will dance with someone more experienced anyway. No special clothes are needed, just a pair of soft shoes or plimsolls until you see if you enjoy it, when the only expenditure would be a pair of country dance shoes.
Come and try an evening and then if you enjoy it, come again!
